I tried watching Negima but it was horrid. I just couldn't deal with it.

Yeah but the glasses bombshell fighter is almost always a hit with the male readers. ^^;

I like both Mahou Sensei Negima and Shijo Saikyo no Deshi Kenichi because of their story's. Oh, I would agree with you about HSDK having a weak beginning. The ORIGINAL manga "Tatakae! Ryozanpaku Shijo Saikyo no Deshi" didn't have a weak beginning and was much better in my opinion, but they stopped making it. -_-;; Then they started over with the "History's strongest fighter Kenichi."

Oh, and, I haven't watch any of the anime for either of them. I have only read the manga. I sometimes have a hard time watching an anime after reading the manga first because the manga is always better in my opinion..

I read/watch Negima maybe 70% for the art, 20% for the characters and 10% for the story :|
It's mostly because I'm a shotacon, and little magical boys with miniglasses are my moe like WOAH.

I don't even know if I started with the original or the new one @.@...
The scans looked really old, so it could be the first one, but then again they could just be bad scans...
