This is probably one of THE most EPIC mech anime I have seen ever. This show one-ups itself so many times, its incredible and you don't get bored of it. The insanity that ensues causes mass hilarity and explosions which then fuel more insanity. Its a never-ending cycle of absolute joy and win.

Overview:
Simon (14) and Kamina (not sure but I would guess early 20s) are residents of the Jiha Village. The village exists completely underground and people drill through the soil to expand the village. However, it is forbidden to drill upward and it is said that there is nothing beyond the ceiling. One day, while Simon is drilling, he finds and very small drill that glowed with a eerie green light. Soon after, he also finds a mech a little shorter than himself but much wider that Kamina names Lagann. Later, an earthquake shakes the village as a large mech, known as Ganmen, falls through the ceiling and proceeds to smash the town. With the help of Yoko, a young woman from the surface who was stalking this Ganmen, and the Lagann, the Ganmen is destroyed and the trio reach the outside world.

The drill becomes a symbol of the entire Anime. Lagann sprouts drills to fight and it seems to never run out of places for drills to pop out from. You'll find yourself yelling at the sheer awesomeness that is Gurren Lagann.

I keep seeing the manga for that and deciding it won't be interesting enough to read. But if you recommend it, it must be worth a look at. I'll do that over winter break sometime...

I haven't read the manga, but the anime did come first.

I can't recommend the manga since I haven't read it, but I doubt it would be bad. However, I would highly suggest you watch the anime because I feel that a lot of the fighting is going to be lost in the translation.

Really? You didn't like it?
Did you only watch the first episode? (mind you that I didn't hate any of the episodes, but its common courtesy to the anime to watch at least a few before deciding its crap)

I told you it was Physics breaking. There's a reason everyone loves Kamina and its because no matter what he does, it works. Kamina is just amazing and the entire anime will bend to his will.

It makes me cry. Although I didn't like the episode with the pink puffy beastmen. That was just weird.

Oh quiet, you little whiner.

Just go watch more, okay?

You cannot deny the awesomeness of Boota, however.

So?

He knows the best place to be during the entire series. In between Yoko's boobs.
Boota wins.

Also, I should mention that it gets better after the time skip. *nod* *nod* And the people in my anime club basically called the insane acts (particularly in the final episodes) dividing by zero. I think they're right. XD

OH MY ****ING GOD, I LOVE TTGL!!!!! <333333 No seriously, this show makes me so bloody happy. I don't think I've been this crazy over an anime since FLCL and that was awesome. I can't help but wonder if I can truly call myself a Gainax fan without having seen Evangelion, though.... ^^;

Also, I love my anime club friend who got me most of the versions of RAW RAW FIGHT THE POWAH. I even have a playlist of it and listen to it every chance I get. Cheesy I especially love Libera me from hell because it's really beautiful. ^^- I WANT THE SOUNDTRACK AVAILABLE STATESIDE, HOLY SHIT. I DON'T WANT TO PAY 75 BUCKS FOR A TWO DISC SET, PLZKTHX.

At first, I shied away from this series because I usually don't appreciate Super Robot series that much. The plot is usually lacking for some reason, compared to Real Robot series, such as Gundam. However, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann changed that completely. After watching the first three episodes, I was hooked. Also, the ending wasn't so...Gainex'd...for the most part. Physics breaking doesn't even BEGIN to describe this series. I mean...throwing multiple planets around like baseballs? Shooting through dimensions? I didn't think that could be one-uped...until they started throwing galaxies like shurikens.

In terms of power, the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is easily an S-class Super Robot, which means that it has the ability to destroy a universe AND a means to gain power exponentially. Also, it's the biggest robot EVER. Nothing comes close to a Super Robot the size of a galaxy.

And that is my mecha fanboy rant for Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

Wait... gimmie a minute. I think I have a doujinshi page that sums up my first reaction to TTGL (minus the part about not liking shota)...especially the "firey soul" part. Safe link - I promise.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b187/sanzogoku39/Gure-Nabe-03.png?t=1230711693

I felt it in the first minute of the anime. I knew it was gonna be epic, you know? Little jerk's just digging around, and suddenly Kamina appears and shit happens and by the end of the episode my chest was pounding and I had to watch more.. -___-;;
Then that happened... and I stopped for a while... but I wanted more so I went back and got more Viral and I was just so friggin happy >___<

I'd have to say TTGL's my favorite mech anime. Nothing else can compare.
